Throughout the Bible, we are given glimpses into a cosmic reality—a heavenly assembly where God, the Most High, presides over a spiritual family. Known as the Divine Council, this concept reveals that God doesn’t govern alone. He delegates authority, both in Heaven and on Earth. But part of this divine family rebelled—and the ripple effects of that rebellion are still felt in our world today. Scriptures like Psalm 82, Job 1, and 1 Kings 22 describe a heavenly court—spiritual beings who were created to participate in God’s rule. These bene elohim (“sons of God”) were meant to serve God's purposes, particularly in relation to the nations of the earth.

But many of these beings fell into rebellion (Deut. 32:8–9, Psalm 82). Instead of guiding humanity toward truth, they led people into idolatry, deception, and spiritual slavery.

This isn’t mythology. It’s biblical cosmology—the spiritual reality that frames our daily lives.

While rebellious spiritual beings were judged and disinherited from their positions, God set into motion a redemptive plan through Jesus Christ. A plan not just to rescue individuals, but to raise up a new council—a family of humans redeemed by grace, filled with the Spirit, and destined to reign with Christ.

“Do you not know that we will judge angels?” — 1 Corinthians 6:3“To the one who is victorious... I will give the right to sit with Me on My throne.” — Revelation 3:21

Those who are in Christ are not just saved from sin—they are being prepared to take their place in God’s eternal governance, restored to the role Adam forfeited. We were made to rule with Him (Genesis 1:26–28), and Jesus is making that calling real again.

This is the ultimate replacement of the corrupt spiritual authorities: not with more angels, but with redeemed sons and daughters of God—you and me.
