BOXES is one of the most personal songs I've ever written.
For years, I thought the battle was against "demons." What I eventually discovered was that many of my greatest struggles weren't external at all—they were the parts of myself I had locked away out of fear, shame, disappointment, and unresolved pain.
This song is about opening those boxes.
It's about childhood memories that still echo decades later, conflict that leaves scars long after the words are spoken, the weight of believing you're never enough, and the quiet fear of becoming someone your children will struggle to remember.
It's also about grace.
Real healing doesn't begin by pretending we're okay. It begins when we're willing to face the truth about ourselves and bring even the broken places into the light. As followers of Christ, we aren't called to hide our wounds—we're invited to surrender them to the One who can actually heal them.
